A study into perception
My carpool buddy and dear friend and I were have a conversation this morning inspired by a recent client of mine. The family had come in to complete pre-arrangements for their terminally ill father who was expected to live only about a day or so, however, over a week later he hasn't passed. I have already blogged about the fallacy of pre-arrangement when it is so close to death so I won't go into that here.
What I had said was that since he hadn't died within those first couple of days he will likely live quite a bit longer because he is emotionally not ready to go yet. He mentioned (he being a strong Christian which I admire him for) that for someone who is not religious I very often sound very religious. This lead me to thinking about this amazing thing called perception.
From his belief the idea that the gentleman hasn't died is God's will, God be unfinished with his soul on earth. From my perspective it simply showed that the man himself had not put aside all of his connection to this place and the people in it. HE himself is waiting to hear from one last person before he can let go. Maybe a son who he hasn't been close to or someone he would like forgiveness from. His belief is that God gives us this time, mine is we do through our determination and subconscious abilities.
If I waned to go into it I could go through the dialogue that backed up both our points of views based on scientific studies, or belief systems but it's neither here nor there. Our perception is based purely from where we stand on the issue, and the exact same scenario can have completely different meanings for both of us. The most important thing to realize is that "That is OK!" What our belief is doesn't effect the spinning of the earth and generally, for most people, only effects their ability to walk through this life with some sort of comfort, and for a few even happiness.
Good luck to all of you and may your belief's bring you happiness.....
