Time

It's the oddest thing to go from no time to an abundance of time.  I am currently recovering from Gall Bladder surgery and although the Dr. has me off work for three weeks I think the recovery time was more like 4 days.  Now 7 days into it I find that drawing out tasks that previously I'd rush through are becoming more of the constant.

I'm of course limited in what I can do as lifting, pushing or pulling heavy objects are out of the question.  This means I can't go refinish the boat or start to wrench on cars.  Pretty much I'm limited to reading, walking, modelmaking, and watching TV.  The latter a most common temptation.

Walking is the one that threw me into this tangent today.  Normally when I go for a walk it's a question of distance over time.  How far can I walk in the least amount of time so I can get on to the other things that need doing.  Now I'm not in a rush, have nothing to do, so I just keep walking.  Gone for hours at a time now when I get home my wife is wondering what the hell I was doing.

I can now easily see how retirees can eat up their time.  A time waster becomes a habit that can't be missed and suddenly there's no time, it takes all day to go to the bank or get one's hair done, it's an event that can't be delayed.
