Sunny 70 degrees light winds 58 low.
Went to Disneyland with the family and was awestruck at just how fat we are getting as Americans. I know this is no revelation and my own weight is certainly included in the calculation but for goodness sake does every man woman and child have to be following in my portly footsteps. Didn't used to be one fat kid for about every 10 kids. Even then the 'portly' odd fellow was just that a little portly not grossly obese the pudgy cheeks now encroaching on their peripherial vision as they stair out through the deep crevaces that previously would be describes as eyes. Clothes don't even work any more and in addition to being fat we've taken on self propelled electric vehicle to assist our jelly filled asses in getting around so that we can expell even less calories and continue in our slovenly domain.
Society certainly doesn't make it easy to obtain it's own version of the ideal weight. Opportunities to eat a normal healthy meal are few and far between when away from the home. Vendors disguise apples in caramel and sell celery with peanut butter and chocolate chips, a normal healthy sandwich on wheat bread sold at a deli will typically contain twice the mayonnaise and the bread contain twice as much sugar in its preparation as what you might buy for yourself at the store or prepare at home. Everything must taste better when it's purchased out side. A simple Chineese chicken salad will be covered in a soy sauce reduction, for those of you unfamiliar with the produce the indredients are simple, soy sauce, sugar heated and reduced till it's mostly sugar. Throw in a few candied covered tangerines and you got yourself 'candy lettuce.'
I was at the doctor the other day being evaluated post gall bladder surgery for some abdominal discomfort after eating, he offered and we did a Cat Scan of my abdomen to put my mind at ease but he said that in all likeliness I was eating food that were overwhelming my new digestive system and gas was builidng up in my Colon causing the discomfort. His suggestion, a simple one, eat what you would have your child eat! Awesome, my sons normal daily grind: 2 eggs with white toast and a tall glass of milk, Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich with applesauce for lunch. For dinner he will eat pasta, cereal, waffles with syrup, or some other very carb loaded sweet thing. Mind you my son is somehow not blessed with the fat gene that my wife and I have had, I imparticularly had harnessed this particular trait since well before his current age of 10. He also does not possess the appetite that I have had my whole life either and although he does not eat foods that are very healthy for him he also does not finish whats in front of hiim, rarely snacks and generally would skip most meals if he wasn't forced to eat. We are usually happy he partakes of any part of his meal and are less concerned that he has left his meat or veggies untouched.
So there you have it a short dicotomy of my current state of nutrition and my evaluation of the problem. So far my family and I have been unwilling to change so I might want to start putting some money away for the electric cart.
